Abortion is reputed to be one of the most ancient methods of fertility control. Women have resorted to it with or without skilled help, with or without social approval. This book convincingly demonstrates that there has always been, and always will be, a demand for abortion. As a method of fertility control in this country it has, however, only really won the attention of academics, clinicians, and legislators over the past 15 years or so. In spite of this, much research has already been undertaken. Within such a complex field, there are bound to be many diverse areas of specialist interest. This book has synthesized many of these perspectives, and includes those of history, sociology, medicine, epidemiology, and demography.
