Criminalizing Abortion in Mexico

For over 25 years GIRE has worked to increase access to safe and legal abortion and has accompanied several cases of criminalization of abortion. This report seeks to demonstrate the impact and reach of abortion criminalization in the lives of Mexican women, whether or not they were directly involved in criminal proceedings. For the preparation of this report, more than 900 requests for access to public information were made, which were then systematized and analyzed in relation to other public sources and information collected by GIRE from previous years. Through this mechanism, 56 public judicial sentences related to reproductive processes were collected.
